Counselling
At present we have a dedicated team of volunteer counsellors who work very closely with our residents on a weekly basis.
Counselling can be defined in general terms as "the act of forming a relationship with a client in order to facilitate personal growth, problem solving and life style change"
Although our Support Team can offer our residents practical support and advice, dealing with such matters as benefits, training, resettlement and other day-to-day issues. It is the job of our counsellors to give the residents the opportunity to explore their feelings in greater detail in a confidential and safe environment.
The role of our counsellors is also to listen carefully and patiently, establishing a trusting relationship in order to assist their clients work through their problems, to develop new perspectives, understand their behaviour, identify changes they may wish to make and to help them build the confidence they need to implement those changes.
Our counsellors work with clients from all kinds of different backgrounds on a one to one basis. It is their job to be sensitive and non-judgemental, which enables clients to identify their current and underlying concerns with a view to working towards the client's self empowerment.
